Ah yes, that glorious sunny, happy lull between spring and summer when you’d usually be buying cute new swimming cossies, desperately trying to find denim shorts that cover your bum cheek creases, and hunting out evening holiday dresses that are best accessorized with a tan and a large Aperol Spritz.
Alas, this is in fact 2020 and everything is looking, ahem, a little bit different.
So I thought I’d share my top summer 2020 fashion trends – as spotted from my favourite Instagram fashion muses, and online shopping spots. And the best thing about them all is that they’ll look bloody fantastic on you whether you’re sunning it up on the Costa Del Sol (there’s always next year, right?) or sunning it up on the Costa Del Living Room Sofa.
Now, the sweet-sweet joy of tie-dye is that you can do it yourself at home – either to transform any white clothing that looks like it’s died a heinous death, or with fresh new garms.
Or you can buy it from one of the lovely little independent one-woman tie dying bands that have cropped up on Instagram this year – such as @thebeauxtiedyeshop or @emmalanestylist. There’s also loads of cute budget tie dye finds on the online high street too – and I’ll link my fave finds below.
Personally, I love it as a sunny way to make your loungewear wardrobe look a bit more happy and uplifting than bog standard grey trackies. I’ve actually placed an order for a big oversized rainbow sweatshirt to make those lockdown nights in the garden that bit more special.
I am very, very much at home with this trend, thank you very much. I’ve seen lots and lots and lots of glorious midi length floaty dresses on the high street for 2020, and, as a girl who likes to tuck her dinner belly bloat into her pants, this is excellent news.
H&M is one of my absolute favourites for this, and I find they create such classic, easy-to-wear styles, often with sleeves (sleeves!!!!), at a decent price. Lots of them are cotton too, so super breathable.
And whilst you may not have a lot of places to put on a decent floaty dress for right now (aside from the supermarket and the roads you go for walks/runs on), they’re comfy enough to wear around the house on the days you want to feel a little bit more like the old you. Think of them a bit like a posh nightie.
COLOURFUL BEADED JEWELLERY
I love this trend because it reminds me of being thirteen and spending hours in a little bead shop in Brighton, trying to choose the perfect treasures to make into bracelets.
You might have noticed a few fabulous Instagram faces layering up their gold necklaces and bracelets with fun brightly beaded beauties – often with names or words written into the jewellery. I love the fact it creates a happy, holiday vibe, doesn’t cost much, and again – can either be made yourself at home, or bought from an independent seller. Some of my fave to check out are @poppyalmonddesign, @julychildjewellery, @blackcurrantpop and @loverubyross.
They also make the perfect pick-me-up present for a mate who needs cheering up, and can be worn every single day to inject a little bit of sunshine.
