So, spoiler alert – when I chose these outfits and shot them, it was that weird not-winter we’ve been having.
As in like, oh it’s 16 degrees the week before Christmas. As in, who needs a quilted winter jacket and thermals when girl has a flimsy faux-leather jacket? As in, well hello ALL the extra money because girl hasn’t had the heating on since April 2nd 2015.
And well, now it’s kinda cold. As in, WHERE HAVE I PUT THOSE GLOVES THAT STILL LET ME USE MY IPHONE? cold.
So, either mentally store these outfits for a time when the iWeather app isn’t showing possible snowflakes for the next week, or just picture them paired with a cute onesie with a hot water bottle stuffed in the belly.
Your choice, fashionistas.
SHIRT DRESS & HEELS
You’ve got work and then drinks with some pals from uni that you haven’t seen in oh, about six months. You’re not sure if you’ve gained a few sneaky cheeseburger pounds or chin blackheads since you last saw them so you want to make sure you look as sassy as Taylor Swift, and then some.
Enter: The shirt dress and heel situation. I love the vibrant stripes of this Red Herring hunny (which just FYI would look bangin’ with a matching red lip), which works surprisingly well when clashed with tan. Looks polished for the office, looks sophisticated for cocktails.
If classic black stilettos aren’t your jam (obvs keep a pair of flats in your bag because hobbling into bars isn’t the one), a pair of over the knee boots (like these) would be just as cracking, if not a teeny tiny bit warmer…
Dry shampoo and mattifying face powder also vital.
SLOUCHY JUMPER & DENIM
I’ve spent an abysmal amount of time this season looking for cosy pastel roll neck jumpers and apaz nope, the high street says no. Or it did until Miss Selfridge launched this rosy slice of heaven.
Teamed with a ripped pair of skinnies and a denim jacket, it’s the ultimate basic-boo-is-off-for-Saturday-brunch combo and I LOVE IT.
Cosy, snug and with just enough colour to make it Instagram friendly. Finish the look off with reflective sunnies, a chic pair of loafers (this Call It Spring pair are megz comfy) and some avo on toast with a supersize cappuccino.
CHECK SHIRT & STRIPES
I’ve started stealing Chris’s shirts recently, which is all cute and fun until he sees it in the wash basket and is like ‘erm, did you take my clothes to Switzerland with you?’ and I’m like ‘shall I make you a cup of tea?’.
I love wearing them open with a striped tee underneath and a biker jacket on top – the easiest off-duty layering trio of all time.
It’s perfect for days when you’ve got to go to the Post Office, Tesco, Pets At Home, the gym, to see your nan, and then maybe, maybe you’ll have time to lie on the sofa and stare at the ceiling for a bit.
On a side note, can we jut discuss this tan bag of dreams? OK, over and out.
