Guys, I don’t want to get your knickers in a twist but is that summer I smell sizzling away in the background with barbecued halloumi, Twister ice lollies and giant pitchers of Pimm’s?
As today is the first day of June, I thought I’d write a little post about all the things I’m most excited about over the next few months.
Although I would never say summer is my favourite season, I really blinkin’ adore that feeling that lingers in the air at this time of year. I can’t really describe it, it’s like, uh, happiness and optimism and light-heartedness? It’s like everything suddenly feels manageable and achievable and I for one am all about that life.
Summer, I’m ready for ya <3
Tonight we leave for Heathrow, ready for a super early am flight to Los Angeles, for what will fingers crossed be a trip of a lifetime. As most of you know by now, my boyfriend Chris has been doing a part time engineering degree over the past five years and last week it finally came to an end – so this is our big OMG WE HAVE OUR LIVES BACK CELEBRATION.
So far all we’ve done is book a hire car and our first night’s stay in a motel, so it really is going to be one heck of an adventure. We’ll be gone for two weeks and I’m not taking my laptop with me – but I’ll pop up a separate post with more info!
In v glamorous grown-up news, we have a semi new bathroom, HUZZAH! To cut a pretty boring story short, we had to replace the floor and tiles because our shower was leaking into the bathroom, so it became one of those adult jobs we couldn’t ignore.
I’ll whip up a little interiors post when it’s done, but it just needs a lick of paint, some new shelves and some fluffy new towels and it’ll pretty much be like having a hotel bathroom, right?
My fave part of summer (aside from ice cream and sunshine and holidays and all that jazzy stuff) is how easy getting dressed is. You throw on a floaty summer dress, you make the ginormous decision between espadrille wedges and flat sandals and you get on your merry way.
The latest addition to my wardrobe is this v sassy and vibrant ASOS number. I love that it has sleeves, I love that it actually fits my boobs thanks to the wrap shape and I love that it’s not too short – it stops just above the knee. Let’s also just take a minute for that straw shell bag – I mean it might not fit more than a lippy and my card wallet but it’d be perfect for a wedding.
Any fellow Nintendo nerds will know that the latest installment of the Zelda series was released on the Nintendo Switch earlier this year. Me and my siblings chipped in and have been spending one weekend a month together cooped up in front of the TV, attempting to complete it as a team.
Not only does it remind me so, so much of my childhood, but it’s given us some actual motivation to make sure we’re meeting up regularly, which is kinda awesome.
At the time of writing this I have literally just downloaded Adobe Lightroom, which is apparently what the kids are using these days to edit their blog photos. You know me, still stuck in 2001 and basically using dial-up.
Me and my pal Debs who shoots all my photos are hoping to go on a little road trip when I’m back from the States to scout out cute local places to take outfit photos (and y’know, maybe find some new pink walls).
So watch this space or something like that.
I decided last year that one of my ‘being a grown-up’ dreams, aside from having a kitchen island, was to host an annual party. Like an actual party with invites and cocktails that people book in their diaries a few months ahead.
So last summer we held our first one and it was awesome, despite the fact it rained all day. We made a table out of wooden pallets, laid out lots of blankets and cushions, had Moroccan glasses with candles in and bunches of flowers, plenty of fairy lights and fantastic company. I’m hoping to do something even greater this year.
