Last Wednesday I swanned into the Tottenham Court Road branch of Primark and came out with three new spring dresses.
(And a hair turban, a new pair of nude pants and a strapless bra, obvs.)
I was being a bit lazy about trying them on because I was hungry and well, ain’t nobody got time for changing room lights ruining a perfectly good mood. So I assumed that out of the trio, one would probs make me look alright and the other three would end up being returned.
But nope. Sweet lord have mercy, Primark have nailed it.
I LOVE THEM ALL.
And yes I bought another gingham smock dress and if anyone has any problems with that, they can turn their sadness over to Lily who definitely spurred me on.
It was the sleeves that did it for me with this one. JUST LOOK, THEY HAVE LITTLE FRILLS ON THEM. Whilst the ASOS one I have is more of a shirt style, and also more of a faded black/grey check print, this one is traditional gingham so they’re totally different dresses alright.
This one looks perfect with a little black blazer or biker jacket and let’s face it, you could totally get away with wearing with tights and ankle boots whilst it’s still a bit nippy. Plus, it’s super comfy too – I wore it for date night on Friday and there was loads of room for my Thai curry and prawn toast <3
I spied this dress in the SS17 Primark lookbook which landed in my inbox some time last year and it instantly intrigued me.
I mean, it’s not *quite* a one shoulder dress, but it was close enough that I decided to risk a strapless bra. I love the deep navy/purple colour and the cute little waist tie and frill detail hem.
The only thing that made me feel a bit awkward and omg I’m so UNCOMFORTABLE RIGHT NOW when I took these photos was the fact that a) it was super windy and b) the dress was full of static and therefore decided to cling to my body like a needy child. Dreamy.
Zara had a similar style to this out last summer but I was too slow to get involved – this Primark dupe does seem to be slightly more fitted and less smock-style though. BUT GUYS, IT HAS POCKETS. POCKETS.
As you can see, it’s a bit of an easy-creaser, but let’s face it, that’s just that kind of material for ya. It also needs a strapless bra and is well worth sizing up on – more so than with the other two styles in this post.
It’s a perfect thrown-on holiday dress and will fo’ sure be coming to California with me this June.

This isn’t a sponsored post, but the dresses were bought with a gift card for use on sponsored Instagram content – I just thought they were well worth sharing on the ol’ blog too!
