I briefly mentioned these huns in last week’s Weekly Charts, but my heart is so aggressively attached to them that I felt it was only fair to dedicate an entire blog post to them. Gals and pals, meet the pleated midi skirt.
Also known as bae.
When these sassy skirts first started cropping up on ASOS and across the high street, my first thought was SUPER CUTE followed by lol, not on these curves of mine.
Pleats are often as kind on wide hips as swings in kids’ playgrounds are (lol to getting your butt stuck), and so I was like it’s a v pretty trend, but not one I’m going to dip into.
And then everyone else started wearing them. Becca wore the most divine deep purple one in her Autumn Lookbook video. Kate wore this navy one in a blog post earlier this month. And Faye Ellaby wore a super amazing bright cobalt blue one over on Instagram.
And well, I got FOMO. Severe fashion fomo. Who knew that was even a thing?
Or maybe I got subtly brainwashed and so I was like FUCK IT I WANT ALL THE PLEATED MIDI SKIRTS.
And now I have three. Soz not soz. (Link to my blue Princess one from Instagram here – it’s £35 from ASOS).
I opted for ones that don’t have an elasticated waistband as I feel like they’re slightly more flattering as they don’t dig into my back fat – they just sit neatly on it.
For these shots I snapped with Debs at my fave pink wall in East Anglia (the owner of the house kept ‘rearranging’ her blinds and I’ve never been more mortified), I wore a metallic £20 boo from Boohoo.
Although it *did* come folded up in the parcel it arrived in and for the life of me I can’t get the crease out without threatening to iron out the pleats once and for all. So y’know, maybe just try not to look too hard at the photos, alright?
I teamed it with that trusty leopard print biker jacket and a v sassy pair of glitter princess heels from ASOS (spoiler: I wore them out for dinner at the weekend and now have a blister on my big toe, but they’re actually about a 6/10 on the heel comfort scale).
Anyone else become mildly obsessed with pleated midi skirts?
ASOS have SO many good ones at the moment (you can shop them all here) in every colour from bright fuchsia pink to emerald green and I’m going to collect them like Pokemon. Seems as good a New Year’s resolution as any…
