Last week I headed into the depths of Essex to meet Ellie for a full day of sassy fashion shooting. Oh and a picnic because Brie is bae and I’ve always got time for more cheese in my life (soz if you’re feeling a little snug, jeans).
We opted to meet in Rayleigh Mount, a cute little National Trust woodland area just outside the town centre, because well, it was about an hour from each of us, and hey, it’s nice to try somewhere new isn’t it?
We did almost get locked in the park and were on the cusp of melting into an ugly, sticky pile of tears and fluster, but alas, an old man saved us. HUZZAH.
Anyway, the purpose of our meet-up, aside from to analyse Grey’s Anatomy and talk about how much we’d shave off an eyebrow if it meant someone would whisk us back to NYC, was to shoot a few of our favourite pieces from the latest summer drop over at Fat Face.
And sweet mumma, I think you’re going to like the things I’m about to show you.
Mostly the striped dress because it’s so cute and feminine and summer-y and will make you want to wander about barefoot with a little flower crown on your head and a glass of Pimm’s in your hand, like a little barbecue fairy.
THE DENIM PINAFORE (shop here)
When I first booked New York I had these wild ideas about trotting about the city in pinafore dresses and dungarees with sassy bardot tops underneath. Alas my boobs weren’t in on the plan, and nothing really fit. Sob.
Enter this hun. The fact that it’s more of a denim dress with thick straps means it flatters most body shapes and is beyond comfy. Fat Face wash all their clothes until they have that almost-worn in feel to them which means you can forget about stiff, awkward clothes that ride up, itch or irritate you.
I layered my pinafore with a white lace dress, a classic red neckerchief and a pair of mint green kicks. (I don’t know why I just wrote kicks, feel free to shake your head at me).
THE JUMPSUIT (shop here)
Best described as the ultimate item to wear to a family barbecue with a hangover, this patterned all-in-one feels like you may as well be in pyjamas, in a good way.
The dark print makes it flattering without being boring, whilst the simple shape means you can go pretty heavy-handed on the ol’ accessories. Yes alright, I need to step away from the chokers and the straw hats, I get it.
THE STRIPED DRESS (shop here)
I don’t know where to start with this dress – the pastel stripes or the easy, flattering fit, or the cute tie waist, but it is an absolute dream.
It also has two layers to it, to stop it being see through and is, without a doubt, one of the comfiest, softest things in my summer wardrobe right now.
I think it’s vital to have a handful of pieces of clothing that regardless of how hormonal or tired or agitated you are, just work and make you feel good. This is 102% one of those babes. (And it comes in a few other prints too..).
Which one of these sunshine looks was your fave?
