The 5 Essie Nail Shades You Need In Your Life This Summer

IMGP4979

I mean, the Essie shades you need not just for summer but for ALL THE DAMN TIME.

Some people like to wear a flip of a lot of dark red and gold glitter the minute the clocks go back, but not Hannah, nopes.

I’m a firm believer that good nails add a little summin summin to every outfit. And when I say summin summin I mean something fun and exciting and cool and bright and magical. Yup, all dem fings.

Remind me to never write like that again, a bit of sick came into my mouth.

OMG what iF i DiD tHiS hAhA iT’s ReAlLy SlOw.

So there’s that.

Anyway, Essie.

I’ve had a few Essie’s bumping around in my nail varnish sack for a few years now, but it’s only since getting into the habit of painting my nails two or three times a week whilst typing at my desk that I’ve really started to notice just how much better Essie polishes are compared to other brands.

They’re a little pricey in the UK, unless you catch them when there’s a 3 for 2 on in Boots, but over in the US of A they’ll set you back about £5, which is pretty soothing on the old bank balance.

I’m pretty rubbish at the whole home maincure thing. My regime comprises of using a Bourjois magic pot to remove the chip remenants of old polish (usually because I’ve got bored during an episode of 16 And Pregnant and half peeled them off), having a quick file and then layering up two to three coats of polish.

I find that even Essie, queen of all nail varnishes, still needs three coats with a pale shade to look immaculate. So it’s a real effing delight when budget salons only give you two and then you have mildly streaky nails, like come on boo, could have done this better at home myself.

I then finish off with a coat of Seche Vite top coat (although, maybe don’t use this if you’re preggerz, it’s not all that safe according to California) which makes it dry a bit quicker and gives it a glossy sheen that *could* be gel. It’s babin’.

So, here are my top 5 colours right now, currently on rotation.

Mint Candy Apple

Chillato

Minimalistic

Tart Deco

Maximillian Strasse Her

The first three are all yummy, soft pastel colours and are the best pastel shades in my opinion. I’m still on the lookout for a good lilac and pale blue (I own Find Me An Oasis and Bond With Whomever, but I don’t love them enough as I could), so hit me up with your suggestions!

I love Tart Deco as a holiday summer shade for toes and fingers, it’s the chicest of coral shades because it’s not as bright and HELLO I’M ALMOST NEON, like most orange-pink combos and it looks absolutely sublime with a tan. Yeah it does.

Lastly, it’s the blogger classic, old Maximillian. Chosen for people who avoid colourful nails the same way they’d avoid train carriages with crying babies in.

Grey is cute on nails and probably too cool for someone who’s a bit flappy and clumsy like me to truly pull off, but still, this shade is just the right amount of edgy.

Again, I prefer it with a slight tan because otherwise it makes you look a bit, y’know, like a corpse and ain’t nobody want that.

I’m always on the lookout for sexy new Essie shades so let me know your faves below!
