I have a confession to make.
The minute the sun comes out I stick to dresses. Floaty, pretty, summer-y thinks that disguise my lumps and bumps, keep me cool, and instantly flatter should I want to take a sly outfit selfie in the mirror.
I do not do skirt and top combos. Not anymore anyway. Back in the old days (all the way back way when in 2013) I’d love a good high waisted skirt that’d flair out and hide my hips whilst showing off my waist. It was trademark Hannah.
But since then, something’s happened and I’ve come over all body shy – filling with anxiety and OMG PEOPLE ARE STARING AT ME AND LAUGHING IN THEIR HEADS the minute a hemline is above my knee or something clings even the teeniest tiniest bit to my belly.
So here I am, stepping out of my comfort zone.
I haven’t worn this skirt in ages despite having a mental breakdown with excitement the day I saw it was back in stock on ASOS’s website – there’s no doubt the button down denim skirt is one of SS15’s key style players.
It’s mega comfy without tights and I love it paired with a lighter, flowier top, so that the whole look isn’t too skintight.
Cut embroidered gypsy tops have been every damn where this summer. Mine’s Warehouse and because it’s black it means it’s not covered in foundation stains two minutes after pulling it over my head which is always a dreamy bonus. I’m such a clutz.
This is an outfit I’d wear out and about – for lunch, for shopping, for sightseeing. It’s easy, it’s casual, and despite the skirt being a *little* on the short side, it’s practical.
OH, OH, OH and this is new for me too – brown accessories. I legit never use brown or tan accessories, I have no idea why. It just felt like the right time to pull my Marrakech bag out of retirement and pair it with my Primark go-to sandals.
Maybe I’ll start looking at skirts again online…
